Four years ago, Southern Ocean Lodge and all of 112 hectares (276 acres) of its protected Kangaroo Island wilderness were consumed by wildfire. Now, Baillie Lodges’ flagship all-inclusive, all-suites resort is open again. Combining contemporary design, world-class dining, unique wellness experiences at Southern Spa, and a commitment to nature and sustainability, Southern Ocean Lodge celebrates the resilient spirit of Kangaroo Island.
Kangaroo Island is located 13 kilometres (8 miles) off the coast of southern Australia, via a comfortable 45 minute ferry trip from Cape Jervis or a short 30 minute flight from Adelaide. It is one of the best places in the country to see koalas, kangaroos, sea lions and seals, and other wild animals. Throw in a hyper-local food and you’ll see why Kangaroo Island and Southern Ocean Resort is a bucket list destination unlike any other.
Returning guests will find a similar footprint to its award-winning original design, but a few stunning adds complement the breathtaking views of the Southern Ocean.
Among them is the magnificent (jaw dropping!) Great Room, which will be the place to gather, thanks to floor-too-ceiling windows and terrace that now boasts a wet-edge pool. Guest will also find the new ultra-premium Ocean Pavilion, designed to offer a single four-bedroom owner’s residence or two separate two-bedroom suites for families and friends travelling together.
A spacious new Southern Spa has three treatment rooms, a gymnasium, sauna and hot and cold plunge pools. Behind the scenes, cutting-edge technology includes rainwater water capture systems and solar power generation, smart building materials, and 45,000 biodiverse native plants propagated onsite and planted around the resort.
