Hotel Review

Home-away-from-home vibes are what A Tuscan Villa is all about

Why book?

In the exquisite little town of Fish Hoek, a coastal suburb surrounded by rugged mountains on the southern peninsula of Cape Town, this family-owned guest house is the home-away-from-home you’ve been looking for, guaranteed to warm your heart and convince you to stay a little longer. Owners Anita and Jeremy will greet you by name, and share warm hellos every day.  By the time you leave, you’ll feel like part of their family.

There is also secure onsite parking, and lush gardens surrounding the guest house. Lavender grows in the garden and a solar-heated pool makes it ideal for a weekend (or longer) escape. It’s also an easy walk to the white sandy beach and glorious bay.

Who’s staying?

Year after year, month after month, local and international guests return. During my stay, every guest was a returning traveller, drawn back to this small slice of paradise, including a spirited elderly woman visiting from the UK, a father and daughter duo on a 4×4 adventure, a couple who regularly return to Fish Hoek, and businessmen who choose the location for annual trips.

All eight rooms are spacious, light and bright

What are the rooms like?

With only eight rooms, A Tuscan Villa feels like you’re in a friend’s well-appointed home rather than a sterile hotel, which is part of its appeal

Each bedroom is well-appointed without being fussy, light and bright, spacious, and has an en-suite bathroom. Rooms are named for the residential areas surrounding Fish Hoek: St James, Clovelly, Boulders, Kommetjie, Simons Town, Fish Hoek, Kalkbay and Noordhoek.

FYI: Boulders, on the ground floor, is wheelchair accessible.

You’ll also find a balcony or terrace off of each as well as free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, bar fridge, a tea tray and toiletries.

Spill the tea! How’s the…

Food?

As this is a guest house, expect a copious appetising and healthy breakfast served daily alongside personalised service.

Start the day with made-to-order omelets, bread and jams, cereal, fruit, cheese, muffins, plus coffee, tea and juice.

For lunch and dinner, A Tuscan Villa Guest House is well-situated for dining, shopping, and discovering the shops and seafood spots of Fish Hoek.

Check out their recommended restaurants.

Service?

The best thing about staying in a guest house is that you get to know the people behind the pillow plumping, and this guest house is no exception.  Anita and Jeremy make it their business and priority to ensure you feel like family by the time you leave.

Neighbourhood?

Fish Hoek is about 40 minutes from Cape Town and people come for the numerous adventures in the surrounding area.  What CAN’T you do is a better question. Here are some suggestions:

Clovelly Golf Course – one of the finest in the country, located in the stunning Silvermine Valley is less than 15 minutes away.

Surfing – The Cape Peninsula is a surfing jewel and the the False Bay coastline offers unlimited possibilities. Numerous companies offer surf lessons, surf-ski paddling, kayaking, and more. Swimming amidst the dramatic beauty and sandy beaches is a must, and the significantly warmer waters (compared to the Atlantic coast.) make it a joy.

Whale Watching – The area is renowned for its whale watching, especially Southern Right Whales when they are in the bay to calf between July and November.

Tennis – The Fish Hoek Tennis Club welcomes new members and visitors.

Lounge, read or eat breakfast in the tranquil garden

A visit to Fish Hoek and a stay at A Tuscan Villa Guest House will not disappoint. You’ll understand why travellers return again and again, and you’ll be planning your next visit the minute to leave, which is very hard to do.

I am a wife, a mother and an entrepreneur, but most of all I am an adventurer at heart. Currently I live in an area called the ‘Deep South or South Peninsula’ in Cape Town, South Africa, only 2-3 miles from the Ocean. I am privileged to work and stay in one of the most beautiful places in the world, or so I believe. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, specialise in Sports Massage and Manage a Creative, Art and Design NPO called ‘The Thinking Fund’. I enjoy out of the box thinking in business, but probably should have pursued a career in the Creative Arts or Literature.

I have a poem published in a Parenting Book, written by a South African Author and I hope to one day have more of my own poems and writings published.

My hobbies include running, reading, art, traveling, tasting cuisines from different establishments and cultures, drinking wine and writing poetry, but what I love is sharing these experiences with others, much like a play on words, you are able to bring your own story and imagination to life in the mind of the reader.

Life has taken me on various journeys, and each one tells its own unique story...as 'Our story only ends when we stop creating the narrative!'
