Award-Winning Mexico City restaurant Zeru opened its first international outpost in Miami this year —which makes it an ideal spot to people watch during Miami Art Week, which kicks off December 6. Located in the trendy Brickell neighbourhood, Zeru Miami is turning up the heat on the trendy dining scene, bringing coastal Basque seafood, grilled meat and stellar table-side service to the Magic City. Also on the horizon for art lovers is the 10th annual Miami Brickell Art Festival, which will be held from 27-29 January, 2024.

Step in and be transported to San Sebastian, Spain, a coastal city in the north of the Basque country known as a top Michelin-starred destination in Europe. Zeru’s multi-sensory dining experience starts in the inviting dining room designed by Mexico City-based architecture and interior design studio Faci Leboreiro. A lively open kitchen allows guests a glimpse into the Zeru process and a full view of the traditional Josper Grill, which gives their signature dishes a unique taste while enhancing the flavors of the ingredients.
The dining room has floor-to-ceiling windows and surrounds a large central bar where guests can drop by for before dinner pintxos and cocktails. A spacious outdoor terrace will debut later this year. The culinary journey continues from the open kitchen to the table, with attentive service and tableside presentations that invite guests to be part of the action.Â
Zeru Miami’s Culinary Chops
The culinary team, overseen by Chef Partner Israel Aretxiga and Executive Chef Gabriela Guitrón, brings the Zeru experience to Miami.Â
“We realize that a dining experience is not only amazing food but having the service and ambiance to match it. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into training our staff here in Miami to mirror the world-class service that our restaurants are known for in Mexico City and we care about creating an immersive and memorable experience through vibrant cuisine and hospitality that evokes nostalgia and emotions”, says Alex Moredia, Zeru Miami General Manager.Â
“Expert hot coal grilling, the beautiful and simple combination of wood, smoke, and flame present since the beginning of gastronomy, is what gives meaning to our cuisine”, says Zeru’s Partner Chef Israel Aretxiga. “We apply the traditional techniques of the Basque asador [cooking meat over a slow-burning fire] to the finest ingredients to create a unique gastronomical experience of authentic flavors”.
Highlights from the menu include a selection of whole grilled Getarian-style fish made on the Josper grill; Socarrats – crispy and caramelized rice with options of Japanese Kobe Beef and Alaskan king crab; signature pintxos include croquettes topped with confit mussels, Pan con Tomate, and Jamon Iberico, and appetizers from land and sea. The desserts are not to be missed, with standouts such as arroz con leche socarrat and Manchego cheese fondant with macadamia ice cream.  Â
Says Executive Chef Gabriela Guitrón. “Like the Magic City, our restaurant has an identity of its own, an authentic dining experience of flavors and textures that have been preserved and enhanced with ingredients that speak for themselves”.
